A solid Swedish variation on the locked-room mystery, with a number of surprising twists. Larsson was a magazine editor and investigative journalist for twenty years before he wrote the book, and he sets the action against a very realistic background. Whether he's describing how to hack into financial accounts, uncover financial malfeasance at a corporation, or solve a 40 year old mystery, he comes up with convincing details. Not to say the story is perfect-- some of his characters are drawn a little thin, and one of the supporting narratives is a little weak-- but definitely a book that makes you want to read his next one.
