This book is very much like a modern-day All Quiet on the Western Front. Just like its predecessor, the narrator in this novel struggles with why he is a soldier. He is never sure who the enemy actually is, who he is supposed to shoot and who he is not supposed to shoot. Myers portrayal of the War in Iraq is both realistic and heartbreaking.

Stylistically, there are parts in the novel that are difficult to read. I found myself having to reread some sections repeatedly, because they did not hold my attention. I read this as a book to possibly recommend to my 9th grade students, and I would definitely recommend it to them.
