it was amazing

I enjoyed this coming-of-age story. With romance and adventure, it was a very satisfying read. I've been thinking about some of the characters and themes even after finishing it. There are some parts that frankly depict some of the appalling violence and bloodshed that happened under Moctezuma, but these are not frequent nor are the scene gratuitous. Staheli does only what she needs to establish clearly what kind of world this is--still, if you are a sensitive reader, just be a bit cautious.

I was intrigued by the plot, and the setting. These were all well-done. However, I think Staheli's gift for characterization really rises to the top here. The characters seemed very real. For me, the test of a character is whether they seem like a real person--and these did.

Very enjoyable read.
