it was amazing

I am only 1/4 of the way through this marvelous book and I already have to give it a 5 star rating. Zen is something you experience; but try to explain it? Try to explain it in its purest form...for instance, Merton gives the example that, to place Zen in the context of Buddhism, is like making Spanish Baroque essential to St John of the Cross; he may have lived in that era, but is inconsequential to who he was - the perfect clarification of an otherwise commonly misconstrued notion. And on, and on...A must-read for anyone wanting to gain an understanding of Zen, or anyone wanting to convey the experience of it to others.
