it was amazing
bookshelves: adult-romance

One of my favorite Nicholas Sparks' books. The main character falls in love with her long time friend after losing her husband at a very young age. I love the romance concept of the book and the slow realization of Julie as she comes to love Mike. It is also a nice concept of her lost husband watching over her and letting go when he sees she is finally at peace without him. Romance stories are more fascinating to me when the main characters are already friends who fall in love.

Katie I also loved how he incorporated the thriller aspect of the novel too!

Amanda Yancey I feel the same way about love stories. :)

Kris Anyone else want to know why this one hasn't been made into a movie? It's one of my favorites of Nicholas Sparks'. Though maybe a movie not do it justice. Some of his movies turn out great, some are an insult to the book.

Kamilah I actually completely agree with you Amanda. I love all the books in the romance genre, but I think Mike and Julie’s romance was my favorite. Similar to what you said, “Romance stories are more fascinating to me when the main characters are already friends who fall in love,” I think that Julie’s affection and love for Mike was so true, because they both share the same tragic experience of Jim’s death. They got closer to one another to comfort each other with the grief they were feeling. After Mike was always there as a friend for Julie, she saw more qualities that she liked about him. For example, Julie said, “. Mike and I . . . we just get along so well. He makes me laugh. He makes me feel good about myself. It’s been a long time since I felt that way.” (Sparks 175). She was describing how she felt with Mike after their first date. There are billions of cute quotes I highlighted in my own copy of the book, but in that quote, you can see Julie in her transition period with her feelings toward Mike. Overall, I completely think that being friends with a person you fall in love with makes the love story so much better.
