Twice Loved by Wanda E. Brunstetter set at Christmas in 1945 is the story of Bev Winters a single mother widowed by WWII struggling to make ends meet. Enter a widowed used toy store owner who is as kind and generous as Bev is doggedly self sufficient.

This book may not appeal to everyone because it does contain some religious overtones. I'm not saying that's a bad thing though, because I thoroughly enjoyed the story. It is a relatively short story, but has a lot of heart. As a child and still today, my favorite children's book at Christmas is The Story of Holly and Ivy by Rumer Godden and Barbara Cooney and Twice Loved reminds me of it a great deal with it's nostalgia and hopeful message. I would highly recommend this book. The book also contains recipes, crafts, & trivia from the 1940s.
