it was amazing
bookshelves: re-read

This is my favorite novel in all the world, a gorgeous love letter to New York City. I never look at the stars in Grand Central Terminal without thinking of Peter Lake, living up there.

Rereading this, at Mohonk Mountain House, January 2010. I love it even more.

Quotes GraceAnne Liked

Mark Helprin
“Peter Lake had no illusions about mortality. He knew that it made everyone perfectly equal, and that the treasures of the earth were movement, courage, laughter, and love. The wealthy could not buy these things. On the contrary, they were for the taking.”
Mark Helprin, Winter's Tale

Karlan I've given this book to many people to enjoy. It is one of the very few books I ever return to. Whenever it's cold in NYC, I think of Helprin's magical novel.
