This book was given to me by my ex-husband who has lived in Chile for the last dozen or so years. It is an epic story made more riveting by the fact that the author is a cousin of former Chilean leftist president Salvador Allende. The story captures the political mood of the country from the point of view of a rightist family patriarch, several apolitical women who can see into the future and family members with decidedly leftist sympathies. Multiple points of view help you grasp what happened in Chile--events that form the Chile of today.

Betsy I really liked this book. I read this before I went to Argentina & Chile. So it's interesting that you're reading it now that Curtis is visiting. I've read a few other Isabel Allende books, and I remember liking them all.
