bookshelves: memoirs

This memoir was a sort of interesting look at the author's mentally ill 15 year old daughter and the author's mentally ill, middle-aged brother during one summer in 1996. It gave excellent descriptions of what I imagine NYC to be like in the middle of an uncomfortably hot summer. The author's way of writing was sort of interesting, but sort of annoying at times. I enjoyed the literary connections and reference to James Joyce and others. This is a slim book, so it was a really quick summer read.
