it was amazing

How do I rate the classic of all classics? Since I wasn't classically educated, it's safe to say I was not predisposed to fully appreciate this masterpiece. (I hope it will be different for my kids.) Poetry is hard for me to begin with, and all the historical and mythology references were way over my head. While Esolen's meticulous footnotes helped tremendously, I still experienced long stretches of being totally lost. So the first book of the Divine Comedy was a chore to get through, but it's still easy to see Dante's brilliance at the same time. His beyond creative tour through hell helps to made sense of the divine order of all things and certain parts can sure hit you hard when it relates to your own sins!
