Megan breaks up with her long-term boyfriend and meets her knight in shining armor both at the same time. Tony seems the perfect rescuer and Megan’s quickly smitten, but not so smitten as he. Meanwhile Megan’s roommate wonders whether Tony’s devotion isn’t maybe just a little creepy, though Megan herself just wants to find and follow God’s plan—be it falling in love with the right guy or convincing said roommate that God is real and cares for her.

Escalating boy-friend troubles soon suggest both Tony and the ex might be potential psychos, but when Megan is physically attacked it’s not clear who she should blame, or who she can trust. Tony’s increasingly irrational behavior doesn't help. Nor do the increasingly scary rumors spread by his ex-girlfriend. But Megan's in love. Where should she turn?

In Mishael Austin Witty’s Christian romantic novella it’s clear a girl should turn to prayer and trust in God. But living out that trust can be hard in the face of betrayal and deception. By the final page readers will have a fairly clear idea of who’s done what, but the future remains uncertain for all the characters, giving an incomplete feeling to the story. That said, Shadows of Things to Come presents an exciting and tense part one to the Flashes of Time series, creating fascinating characters, providing plenty of genuinely scary romantic suspense, and promising more to come for Christian YA readers.

Disclosure: I found this free and bought it for its intriguing plot.
