A quick read about a girl in Restoration England (later 1600s during the reign of Charles II) who is looks different (pale skin, eyes, hair) from her neighbors and has a gift for knowing plants that heal. However, when the plague appears and her father stashes her away in a hiding place, she is blamed for the disease and declared a witch. How she perseveres, helping even those who she dislikes, makes an interesting tale. Good for middle school readers. Some background knowledge of the English Revolution & the period surrounding Cromwell's rule could be beneficial before reading, but the book also provides just enough information that someone reading it might just want to learn more about that period.
