it was amazing
bookshelves: history, code, stories

An excellent book and a delightful insight (for those outside the game industry or those with siblings / family / friends in the game industry) about what it takes to break into game development

Just like Mechner's previous book (The making of Karateka) this is an awesome recording of the personal side of the development process of one of the world's most famous video game franchises

As indie game developers also become more & more powerful in our current age, this book shows the never ending struggle between game developers who want to develop the best possible game, and major corporations that only want to minimise risk

Mechner's attitude towards being SUPER humble throughout the production (having already published a major hit in Karateka) is refreshing. Moreover, his shyness, self questioning and hesitation also keep it down to a VERY realistic look at the human side of video game development

the writing is easy, fast and keeps you looking for just one more update and one more log entry before putting the book down

A definite must read for people in the game industry, people wanting to break in, the family or friends of said people or for any video gaming (or just prince of persia) fans
