The client’s name is Katz Meow, an L.A. porn actress (how perfect). His name is Felix Gomez, a private detective, ex-military, Hispanic, Vampire. His services have been retained for $100,000 (cash) to solve the murder of Ms. Meow’s co-worker Roxy Bronze.

This is the follow up to Acevedo’s first novel ‘The Nymphos of Rocky Flats.’ Like I said concerning that book, the title is most titillating part and as far as this one goes the title is the most x-rated thing about it (sort of). I actually don’t think the titles have to be so tabloid-esque, except for a few hard core scenes, the violence is graphic and there are a lot of porn movie actresses with unusual names like J.J. Jizzme (okay, maybe they do). How about a hack doctor named Niphe? Or a new homeless vampire character named Carlos who has many unusual gifts including the ability to pee fire, which definitely does not come in handy.

It’s vampire satire wrapped in a murder mystery—and it works. The author has a great eye for detail, in a noir sort of way, and Felix narrates his own story so everything is skewered through the blood-suckers point of view. There is nothing new added to the lore he created in the first novel but they blend nicely. There are two more in the series. They are good enough I think I will get to them—eventually.
