really liked it

Well-written, never tedious, meticulously researched. The contrast between the historical record left by Jefferson and his white family and colleagues versus that permitted to the Hemingses was fascinating--in addition to the story that Gordon-Reed tells, the between-the-lines story of how she tells it is also impressive--this could be used as a textbook in a historiography class.
