it was ok
bookshelves: apathetic, fantasy-or-fantastical, supernatural

** spoiler alert ** I'm really very ambivalent about this book. The "eternal 12-year-old" angle is nice, and I did like the suggestion that perhaps Eli's maturity level remained at that age, that her/his experiences did nothing to really advance emotional development - that's definitely an interesting thing to consider.

Otherwise, I neither loved nor loathed anything about it. I found the book more memorable than the movie, which isn't exactly high praise as the movie left no serious impression on me. The writing style did keep me reading, so I guess that's something, although it was very- subduded, maybe? subduded yet evocative? The writing style felt like a winter night - a little detached, but with gusts of emotion and very little warmth.
