This book is a must read -- anyone out there teaching a course on women's issues--this should be on your list.

The book is based upon the biblical reference to Jacob's daughter Dinah. I was intrigued not only by the story Diamant weaves through the novel, but it was a wonderful study of the role of women in early biblical times as well as their attitude toward their families, relationships, and their bodies...often a vessel to be used to bear children and work, it was also a body whose mysteries were to be celebrated.
