I have seen this book, and Cavafy in general, popping up in magazines and journals everywhere lately. I have never read him. You'll have to let me know how it is...

D. Pow Will do, Tennenbaum...

I'd never read him before either, Jon, although I've heard and seen the name for years. Mendelsohn's introduction is sublime and really sets you up to read a guy you've never read before. And his translations are quite good, too, although I have no basis whatsoever to judge whether a translation of Cavafy is good or bad.

D. Pow I've been meaning to pick it up for awhile, Erik, and was heartened by you speaking so well of it.

David I'm 62.

And counting.

It's really depressing when the guys you're attracted to are old enough to be your grandson if you were straight.

David E., I was speaking to the other David (the ex-Goth).

David E., check out http://daddyhunt.com/blog/

I am in my mid-30's and I get on by young men in their early 20's. I find that unnerving as I prefer men near or over my age.

Can I just say that I'm jealous of Donald because he's having this thread on this book which he's marked "to read" whereas I've already read it and written a review and have NO horny old homosexuals on my thread. Harumph.

message 15: by D. (new) - added it

D. Pow Heh.

But your thread made it possible, Erik...

You were the first part of the 'chain'. Heh.

message 16: by David (new)

David No I don't know about Sarah's review of Don Quijote thread. Do you have a link?
