I'm giving this 3 1/2 starts having heard that the sequels are much better and leaving room for improvement.

A quick, enjoyable read. There were a few holes in the story, which might be resolved in a future plot, but overall an excellent book for it's genre.

Stupid, stupid children. I wanted to smack you. If someone you trust tells you not to go anywhere alone, follow that advice.

I'm sure I'll read The Dark is Rising eventually.

Ami The first wasn't the best for sure. My favorites were #2 and #4 (and I have an odd striking sympathy for #3, even though it's definitely inferior to #2).
