** spoiler alert **

Phineas L. MacGuire (aka Mac) is a scientifically inclined kid who hates girls, the color purple, and the fact that his best friend moved away leaving Phineas with no partner for the upcoming science fair. When Mac is assigned the new kid (also named Mac) as his partner, this year's science fair seems certain to be disastrous.

:: I picked up this one because of its "Harry Potter lite" cover and my interest in reading an example of a Middle Grade book with a funny boy narrator. While I found the narrative engaging and briskly plotted, I found the voice to be less than convincing. I enjoy the character, though, and the circle of friends that emerges within the narrative is a fun one.
:: Simple, enjoyable, and fun. Haven't picked up another Phineas L. MacGuire book though...
