This is a story about a man writing a story about his grandma who wrote stories. But somehow the format works. The lives of this man and his grandma are paralleled in a way that vividly captures important lessons learned about love and life.

I believe I got a sense of Stegner's humility and pride. He purports to know a lot about life but acknowledges that there is always room for growth.

I was very impressed with Stegner's ability to capture scenes by his descriptions. His prose kept me interested even when what he was describing bored me.

This was a fairly hefty read. I think I'm up to reading another novel by Stegner, but may let some time pass first.

Dan So you'll have to review this book when you've read it. Stegner I've never read, but I'm told I should. Maybe you can save me some time...
