Shopping for Porcupine is a brief story of Seth Kanter's life in Alaska with great photographs and comments on the socio-political aspects of Alaska. It is almost required reading for anyone who enjoyed the novelized version, Ordinary Wolves. In many ways I preferred the novel - I felt it gave a better sense of what a subsistence life is all about and a provided better emotional resonance about issues with wild and "modern" Alaska. But this book provides a good context and I appreciated the update on his life and on the difficult political issues. Alaskaphiles will love the photos.
