it was amazing
bookshelves: all-time-favorites

I've read this book many times over the past 20 years and it never fails to grab me. It is just a perfect jewel and I love it more with each subsequent reading. It is a book for book lovers. Hanff is the ultimate book lover and I mean, BOOK lover--this woman would have passed out at the notion of Kindle. The sentences are beautifully constructed and the descriptions are lovely.
For some reason I always well up at the line "I require a book of love poems with Spring coming on..."
One of the few times, for me, where the movie version (Anne Bancroft, Anthony Hopkins, Judi Dench) is as good as the book.

Penny Read this book when I worked at Scribner -- the perfect backdrop. A lovely work.
