The Merry Wives of Windsor
May 21, 2009
Not Shakespeare's best. A sometimes-entertaining farce, but the actions of the play seem only actions, without any thematic force behind them. Some scenes should be amusing performed, but the characters remain flat, and I don't feel a desire to see the trickster tricked or the wives vindicated. Some unnecessary subplots, though the Anne Page one seems worthwhile.
