Generally speaking, hard science fiction doesn't do it for me. However, R Naam managed to pull me in with his novel.
I mostly attribute this to the fact that the technological advancements he was writing about were so...personal, and so, believable.
While the portrayal of the characters was a bit thin, as is usual for the genre, the story was engrossing and ripped along at such a pace that I didn't really mind.
If you are even a little intrigued by the themes (human augmentation; transhumanism, post-humanism), I expect you will enjoy this book.
