did not like it

When I was about 13, I got into the habit of reading every work of an author I liked. I began with Dickens. How very OCD of me! Sometimes this lifelong habit has proven a good thing, and sometimes not. The Loving Spirit falls into the latter category. It was written when Daphne was a young woman and struggling to "find" herself. Lucky for us all, she did morph into an amazing author.

Wayne I read your review Linda before I realised you had awarded it one star. And I fully endorsed both - with some relief. This was the only du Maurier book which I barely began and never finished.I sadly felt I had outgrown her as I moved on to other authors. However I have often returned to "Rebecca" and the short stories which I relish.Just now have taken up "Frenchman's Creek" after 40 years plus and was knocked over by that atmospheric, nostalgic opening chapter - so deeply felt."You'd never get THAT past a publisher today," I said to myself, nor past many readers.I was so grateful that Daphne HAD!!!
Happy Reading from Wayne, Sydney Australia.
