really liked it
bookshelves: southernfiction, shortstories
Read in February, 1996

This book of linked stories is a great introduction to Ellen Gilchrist, who generally writes about sassy women from New Orleans and the Mississippi Delta. Her characters are intelligent and eccentric, though, not syrupy-sweet like many Southern heroines. Also, Gilchrist is a genius at writing dialogue.
