really liked it
bookshelves: greatjewishwriters, roth

Last year I read two Roth novels that disappointed me -- Sabbath's Theater and The Plot Against America -- along with two others I enjoyed very much -- Patrimony and Indignation -- but if the beginning of the first Nathan Zuckerman quartet (or "A Trilogy and Epilogue") is any indicated, than I'm in for a succession of four terrific novellas. The incredible thing to me is that for such a renowned writer Roth's best work is often these short yet dense works that offer so much character, drama, thematic resonate and complexity and yet also mystery. I can only bow my head in deepest respect . . .
