It's a classic, and it's pretty enjoyable. Even at the various points where I disagreed with Marcuse, I could easily see where he was coming from. And, unlike Eros and Civilization, there's no ham-handed attempt to reconcile highly disparate realms of thought and synthesize them into a cohesive whole. And his arguments seem vastly more reasonable. I would like a more precise, less "high theory" methodology, but by and large I could see why he chose the approach he did. False consciousness is so pervasive and so slippery, it becomes very hard to work around.
