I really wanted to like this book, and loved Schmidt's "The Wednesday Wars" so much, that I forced myself to finish it, even though it was the type of book that became a chore to read after awhile. I don't know if the author could have squeezed in the line about building your house far away from Trouble one more time, but I felt like it was repeated to the point where I felt like I was being beaten over the head with it---kind of like the whole heavy-handed way the Cambodian refugee prejudice in this small New England town was handled. It would have been potentially interesting in another context and had a lot of potential, but the story just moved too slowly to its obvious conclusion, and belabored its point so much, that I lost interest after awhile.
