Really interesting main character which helps this rise above a middle of the road mystery. The legal world here is very vivid and it helps keep this book from being a beach read procedural (not that there's anything wrong with that). This book takes you inside the public defenders office which is a world not often examined. This always seemed like a horrible job to me despite how noble I think it is. The specific details and the characters make this worth reading and I think lawyers might especially enjoy it.
