really liked it

Man, I do like Curtis Sittenfeld. This book is (famously) based loosely on the life of Laura Bush, and while that's interesting, it's not really important. Alice Blackwell stands as a intriguing character in her own right, and that's a testament to Sittenfeld's writing. I'd recommend this to almost anyone, because while it's literary, it's also sort of fascinatingly trashy because you can sort of see how the Bush marriage might have worked just like this. A very fast 500+ page read.
