Intruder (Foreigner, #13)

The beauty of this long-running series is that events can be examined in far greater detail. So I really enjoyed seeing the ongoing fall-out after the coup that unseated Tabini-aiji failed. And watch how Bren Cameron walks a diplomatic tightrope to try and bring peace to a corner of the atevi civilisation that to date has refused to have anything to do with the Western Association.
As ever, Daniel May's superb narration brings the story to life. I particularly appreciated how the turbulence of the previous years has affected Cajeiri's relationship with his parents in a poignant manner. Cherryh's skill in writing non-human beings that we can care about is exceptional.
9/10
