I really enjoyed this book. It was a quick read (truth is I finished it in a day and a narcoleptic night). I grew up in the south, but very far from the childhood the author describes, but I still related to some of the situations. I especially liked that after reading this book, I made several references to ideas presented in it to friends. My favorite line in the book was one of the many ideas the author's mother held about how a lady should behave; something to the effect of:

"You should not run for men or buses, another one will come by."

Its just such a funny connection to me. On the downside, this book lacked the substance and details I wanted. The author jumped from scene to scene without really completing the thoughts for the reader. If you are looking for an airplane/subway read to pass the time without making you contemplate the text too much, I highly recommend it.
