I would consider myself a fan of the series now, so I enjoyed the book in the sense that it was more - more of the stories, more of the characters I've grown attached to, etc. But in all honesty I felt it lacked the literary soul of the first book and the novelty of the second. Auel wrote this book with the practiced style of one who knows how to please a following of the type of readers who, nowadays, would probably spend the time between books reading and writing huge amounts of sexually charged fanfiction. There was definitely an "Oh, this is what they like? Well, give them more!" type of attitude, but hey, I still cried at the sad parts, so who am I to talk?

And yes, I'm totally reading the next one. Oh, are a crafty spellbinder.
