it was ok
bookshelves: urban-fantasy, ghosts

Lord, this was slow moving. One of the main characters is dead, and she can come back to the world twice a year for one night. She meets the other main character on one of those nights, who then hangs around for the next six months waiting for her to reappear.

There's a little dramatic tension inserted with the discovery of an old woman who's keeping the dead trapped in a ghost town version of where they were alive - but it's not all that interesting and neither is the resolution of it. Grace, our main character, feels like the vibrancy disappears from her when she returns to the town of the dead, and that's kind of what this book felt like to me (particularly compared to de Lint's other books) - dry and dull.
