it was amazing

Rainbow Rowell’s newest novel ELEANOR AND PARK is a romantic read that is both heartbreaking and beautiful. It is not your conventional lighthearted romance but rather a sad love story of two high school outcasts struggling with their own problems.

Eleanor is an over weight 15-year-old that wears hand-me-downs and has bright red hair. She’s an easy target for high school students and is constantly ridiculed and picked on. While it seems like having her clothes flushed down the toilet when she’s in gym class and being called “Big Red” would be the worst part of her days, it’s far from it. Eleanor’s home life is even worse. Besides the fact that she’s dirt poor, her stepfather is abusive and controlling. The poor girl doesn’t even have a toothbrush thanks to her mother’s no-good husband.

Park is a 15-year-old half-Korean attending an all white school. He’s friendly with the popular kids however, and has been able to stay under the radar due to that relationship. His life at home really isn’t bad; his parents are supportive and madly in love with each other. However, at times Park certainly feels like he is not the son his father wanted.
