really liked it

Immediately after reading "Lone Survivor" (Navy SEALS in combat), I read this - just about as far apart as testosterone and estrogen can get - Hegland's second novel is just as compelling as her first.

Two women, whose lives are followed from their teen years, through relationships, pregnancy, motherhood, and diverging lives of relative affluence and struggle ending in homelessness. Yet the story brings the two women to meet each other in a believable manner. The reader is treated to watch these women connect with no knowledge of the other unless they volunteer their lives, while knowing both their personal experiences, heartaches and desires and how those two tracks can enrich each others futures.

So, decisions early on, struggles, pregnancies, motherhood, tragedy, desires, and child rearing - this has it all.
