it was amazing
bookshelves: 2010s, autobiography-biography-memoir, history, tbr-challenge-2023

This was a joy from start to finish. Barnes' account of the life of Samuel Pozzi (The Man in the Red Coat) is just as much an account of the Belle Epoque. The list of supporting characters includes Oscar Wilde, Sarah Bernhardt and Marcel Proust, all of whom are woven into the story of Pozzi, the debonair and stylish gynaecologist. It is a story of medicine and a story of decadence. Highly recommended.
