really liked it

Simply a beautiful ghost story. Susan Hill succeeds in evoking the haunting, claustrophobic atmosphere of the Crithin Gifford mists; the perfect setting for the bleak, stoic Eel Marsh House, and more importantly the Woman herself. The story will send chills up your spine, however for a real fright I'd recommend seeing the stage production. I saw it before I read the book and I must say, as wonderful as the book is, it pales in comparison to the play. Still a fascinatingly chilling, occasionally heartbreaking ghost story. Perhaps not one for the bedside table though...
