I won't summarize the plot. That is already done for you by Goodreads. I gave it three stars, but would have given only 2.5, which in my rating system means it was just an OK read and a book I will not read again and would only recommend to someone else on a limited, qualified basis. An interesting feature is how each of the 8 main characters alternate from chapter to chapter and speak in turn in the first person. It took awhile to get used to it. It was never really made clear why lace was illegal to own. This was a missed opportunity for the author to explore the historical, social, and economic aspects of the story. The plot was interesting enough that you wanted to see how it turned out, but a bit shallow over all.
