it was ok

I just couldn't finish this. I tried, really hard, especially since I loved the movie to death. But I just could not finish this book. Part of it's the language, part of it is the languid pacing, and part of it is the frankly boring chapters relating to Adam Ewing and the musicians in Zedelghem. I picked up the book because the movie was brilliant, but it just didn't live up to the film's quality for me - which is rare.

I give it two stars because I know the stories within are great, even if the movie only took broad strokes, and because I skipped ahead and looked at the two future stories and they were great, even if the language in Sloosha's Crossin' takes a bit of getting used to. Not having finished it may invalidate my opinion somewhat, but I find it's not worth slogging through a book much longer after it starts to feel like work. And that's what this book felt like to me - a bit of a long-winded, highly-praised yet inaccessible piece of work.
