This is the first I've read of David Foster Wallace, after hearing about him multiple times both before and after he died. I found that first couple/half of the stories really didn't do much for me. But then either his stories changed, or he started to grow on me. In particular the last story (more of a novella) "Westward the Course of Empire Takes Its Way" worked for me. Although it reminded me of something that he said when writing his last book, about trying to convey boredom, I mean that in a good way. I may have been particularly susceptible to it, since I was traveling while reading this story about a journey. (Or at least partly about a journey. What with all the meta-fiction and literary references, it is hard to say it was just about one thing. Definitely not for everyone, but I'm glad I read it.
