really liked it

Lawrence Watt-Evans writes what I'd call fantasy realism. His heroes have to worry about things like transportation, eating, sleeping and other such real-world issues. His writing is typically on a very small, human scale. Misenchanted Sword, the first of the novels set in his Ethshar setting, begins with a simple soldier and a simple mystery and then explores the consequences of each.
