There is no doubt this book is dated. I'm not concerned with that. I know the history surrounding the book and I now understand the full extent of it's influence. I'm amazed by the scope of this influence, reaching into culture in ways that I did not realize until I was reading and something would stand out and I would exclaim, hey, I get the connection! Gibson's style, his voice and grittiness (at least gritty for 1984) made me feel more connected to the book more than the characters did and generally, I prefer characters who are easy to relate to over an author's built world. I enjoyed reading this even though it is depressing and I plan to read Gibson's other books.
