Even better than the last. This book took a much darker, more complex turn than the previous one, which gave it a bit more depth. It was a little infuriating how dense Fitz could be (had to keep reminding myself he was supposed to be a teenager) because I could see things coming a mile away that he couldn't (which, clearly, was intentional since all of the other characters saw it coming as well and were equally annoyed with him). It does, also, explore some interesting ideas about what makes us human and what separates us from animals (if anything) and if that separation actually makes us 'better' than them.
