bookshelves: bookcrossing, lost, more-than-once
Read 2 times. Last read February 2, 2009 to February 5, 2009.

I'd forgotten how good it was in the time since I last read it. I wonder what happened to my own copy, which was the edition shown?
Anyway, this wonderful tale of the inevitable love between two people on the fringes of respectability and its catastrophic consequences is told by Oscar's descendant who has certainly done his research. The role of their childhoods in shaping the eponymous characters is made wonderfully clear, shown through their actions in a story that always moves along at a cracking pace. I'm beginning to think that, were I to make a list of top ten favourite authors, Carey would deserve a place on it.
