This book isn't for people looking for a serious evaluation of Basquiat's art, or even people looking for an insightful analysis of his relationship to fame. It is, on the other hand, an engaging enough (if a little too repetitive) re-telling of Basquiat's rise and fall from some of the people who were there. I'm not well-versed in the NYC art world of the 1980's, so it was a decent introduction to some of its major players. I wouldn't recommend it as a starting point for people interested in JMB: it's a little too sensationalized, and you might end up hating him by the end of the book.
