Bleah. Homophobic Dickens Wannabe. This book seems to want to be Dickensian--it tries REALLY hard, because there are oh, so many orphans being mistreated, and oh, so much social injustice, and oh, yeah, every one of the dozens of characters are somehow related to each other, these relationships being revealed dramatically as big "surprises" at the conclusions of each story. pbbblbllllttttt.

And what is up with the gay-hating? Is it just me? Am I imagining this? Eh, it's not even worth the energy to explore.

Even though this is a pretty lightweight novel, and didn't require much mental effort, or time, to get through, I was still left wishing I'd just re-read Nicholas Nickleby instead.
