Well of course - how obvious. Despite the famous preface (Ring does not equal Bomb), Tolkien didn't fight in WWII. He fought in the bloody one, in the mud and the trenches. He fought in the Emyn Muil, and saw the dead faces of his friends staring up at him. A wonderful, thought provoking work for those in love with Lord of the Rings.
